Favorite Things Tuesday

Hi Friends!

Welcome back to Favorite Things Tuesday!

A long time ago.....okay, a verrry long time ago, I took a sewing class in high school that I was sure was going to be an easy "A"!

I mean, after all, I had grown up watching my mom sew for six girls and occasionally, even sewing for my brother.  I even watched my dad jump in and help mom whenever needed!

She would sit at that sewing machine for hours and make it look like the machine practically ran itself.

Easy "A", right?

Not so much!

My final project for that class was a pair of shorts that I was certain were going to bring my average up and I wouldn't have to deal with the embarrassment of anything less than an "A" in Sewing 101.

Wrong!

Let's just say the shorts were never worn by me or any other human being.  I don't even think they made it out of the classroom that day.  In fact, they found their resting place in the garbage can right after I received my not-so-good grade.

Recently, I received a sewing machine from one of my dear sisters, at which time, I graciously accepted it .


"It's a great machine",  she said...."you're going to love it".

"I'm sure I am", I said....as I tucked it away in the back of a closet thinking maybe one day (a long time from now) I would pull it out and face my fears!


I didn't think it was going to be quite so soon!  But, when I was unable to find pillows that were the colors of coral that I was looking for, I knew the day had come!

I reluctantly pulled the machine out, along with the manual and the "Sewing for Dummies" book that she sent (maybe she had a hunch).

I had no idea what I was doing or how I was going to sew pillow covers.

But....I've never been one to shy away from challenges and I knew this would be no different.

Thank goodness for Pinterest....

and Jackie at Teal & Lime.

I think she must have been sitting in my sewing class that day and knew sometime down the road, I would need a step by step video on how to make envelope pillow covers.

By far, the easiest thing I have ever sewn.  I think it took me less than 30 minutes to sew two pillow covers.  

Of course, that was after it took me about 30 minutes to reintroduce myself to my sewing machine.

Nonetheless, I did it!  

I faced my fears and made my pillow covers!

And, I couldn't be happier with them.

Not saying I'm ready to open an Etsy shop for pillow covers, but Jackie, Teal & Lime, and my new pillow covers are just "A Few of My Favorite Things"!

Favorite Things Tuesday

Welcome Back My Friends to: 

Favorite Things Tuesday

Are you one of those people that frequents greeting card shops?  


Do you find yourself laughing in the aisle out loud at one of those Shoe Box greeting cards and then looking around to see if anyone noticed your outburst?


Before you know it time has passed and you are standing at the checkout with a handful of cards that you just couldn't leave without.


Chances are you have just the right person in mind for each one but not necessarily the right time to give to them.

You get home and they end up  in a pile somewhere with hopes that you will be able to put your hands on them when you need them!

I am one of those people!

While I was in search of containers for a client not too long ago, I came across this card holder.

 It has six dividers with a tab that you can put custom labels on to keep your cards in separate categories.

I gathered up my piles of cards and put them in stacks by card type, making labels for each category. 


I made five labels for the categories that I had the most cards for and then a miscellaneous one for all of the others.

I also purged some that lost envelopes along the way or just no longer made sense to keep.

There's something about sitting down to write a note to that special someone either for a birthday, a milestone, or just to let them know you are thinking of them.

And that, my friends, is one of my favorite things!

It's Another One of My Favorite Things Tuesday - Unexpected!

I woke up this morning with a lot of excitement and jitters!

I had a phone consultation scheduled with Karianne @ Thistlewood Farms (isn't her home awesome) to help me with my blog and hopefully, better inspire my readers.  

whew...

She didn't disappoint - understatement!  

But that wasn't the unexpected part - I was fully expecting to be charged up and motivated...all you have to do is read one of her posts and you will get the picture.

The unexpected part of my day came when I hung up the phone.

My youngest daughter, Katie showed up and told me she brought me something.

  

Even though she's 24 now, I still never know what surprise she has 

lurking around the corner.

And when I reached the kitchen, there they were.  

PINK TULIPS!

Just because...

Aren't they beautiful!  

Are pink tulips my favorite flowers?  I can't really say that I truly have a favorite flower, there are so many that I love.

Receiving them from my daughter,

                         just because, 

                             now that is TRULY one of my favorite things!

These are a few of my Favorite Things

Meet my 

Cheese Grater

What does that have to do with organizing?

Not exactly sure...but I guess I could come up with something.....like.....

How nicely it stores (all of the lids snap together)...

or

Okay...so maybe not so much...but

It really is one of my favorite things!

and here's why:

It comes with three different grater sizes that are have different colors which makes it easy to identify which size you are looking for.

You can place one of the lids on the bottom so that it won't move around while grating.

There is also a solid lid that can be used to store the cheese right in the container that you grated it in.  One less item to clean!

It even has the measurements printed on one side of the container to use for a recipe.

Probably my most favorite part is no more cut knuckles!!!!

Take Out Menus

It’s Tuesday’s Favorite Things Day!

As I mentioned last week, I have started a new topic at O is for Organize:

These are a few of my Favorite Things

This week’s feature is:

Take Out Menu Binders

At one point in my life, when there were six of us in the house, I did a lot of cooking!  We did occasionally eat out and get take out, but it was very expensive for six of us!

Now that my husband and I are “empty nesters”, we do a lot more restaurant dining (whether it be going there or take out) and we have ended up with quite a collection of menus.

I know you can typically find menus on the restaurant websites but, for us, we like to be able to look at it on paper!

I wanted one place to keep them together and organized and I found this one at one of my favorite shops!

The binder included pre-printed labels and blank ones that you can write the category yourself.

Any kind of binder would do the job.  If you can’t find a pre-made one or don’t want to spend the moolah, you can always make one yourself with a regular binder and labels that you probably already have laying around the house.

The idea is to have a central spot to keep them organized and easily accessible because, after all, when you're hungry, you're hungry!  Who wants to go hunting for the menu, right?

A New Topic at O is for Organize

It seems like I find myself saying “that’s one of my favorite things” a lot whether it be an organizing tool, baskets, cleaning products, clothing, and definitely “food”!!

That being said, I thought I would have a new topic on a regular basis called:

These are a few of my Favorite Things

Real original, huh!

So, today is my first and it is none other than:

Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day

If you are already a fan and use these products, then you know what I’m talking about when I say that the variety of scents available  is simply divine!  If you haven’t tried any of their products, you don’t know what you’re missing!

With names like Lemon Verbena, Rosemary, and Lavender, just to name a few, you can imagine the aroma while wiping kitchen counters or tossing a Lemon scented dryer sheet in with your clean clothes.

The products are available in Household Cleaners, Hand & Body Care, Laundry, and Air Fresheners.
