Home Office Reveal

So excited to finally share my Home Office Makeover with you and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out!



This is a reminder of my inspirational picture that I shared with you here.

I love the soft classic look of her space and I made it my own by adding a touch of coral sporatically throughout the room.



The pillow covers were made in about 30 minutes from a super easy tutorial that I found here on Pinterest.

I brought coral in on this side of the room by adding knobs, file folders, and basket liners from the same fabric as one of the pillows.  The folders were made using the same method that I used in a previous post here.

White spray paint covered the original black framing of the pegboard, bulletin board and two of my favorite things - the gifts from my daughters for Mother's Day many years ago.

Thanks to Melissa at The Inspired Room, I learned a super easy way to paint stripes without having bleed through of the colors.  Click here to check out the trick (and to meet her awesome buds, Jack & Lily), trust me, you will fall in love! 

 I changed out the items that I had in my cabinet and added the jar filled with gumballs on top!

One of the things that I loved that she did was the stenciling on the top of her table.

As Promised!

Sometimes I hear people say "I don't know where the weekend went"...

in fact...

I even hear myself say that sometimes.

But today, I can say "I know right where the weekend went".

Baseball...

baseball...

and more baseball.

My husband has made a true fan out of me!



However.....



I would be lying if I said I wasn't thinking about all of those projects I have back at the house.


I know I promised you a sneak peek at what's been going on in my home office so, albeit a small one, (kind of more of a tease really)....

Ta dah!

I was able to run a couple of errands and pick up some great deals and I can't wait to share them all with you soon!

Happy Feet

Have you ever been so excited about something....either good news about a job....

 or a new pair of shoes.....

or arriving at a vacation destination....

that you just couldn't contain yourself....and you started dancing......

without any music....

or a care in the world about who might be watching?

Well, that's what my sister, Denise and I call "Happy Feet".

And that's exactly what I was doing today....when this box arrived...

I couldn't believe how fast my new light fixture for my office got here!

And, my sweet darling husband, with whom I am celebrating our anniversary with later tonight, will be installing it for me sometime this weekend.  (Of course, it will be in between lots of LSU Regional baseball games!!)

Geaux Tigers!!

He promises....he will have it up and working before Monday morning...and I look forward to sharing it with you on the reveal day!

Who Wants to be an Organized Wizard?

7 Days to an Organized Home Office

While I was busy working on my last month's Kitchen challenge, I regretfully have to admit that I let my home office space got a little out of control.

Okay.  Maybe a lot!

The first thought that came to mind, was "I Dream of Jeannie".  (For those of you who are too young to know what I am talking about, it was a tv show back in the 60's about a jeannie who, with a nod of a head, a blink of the eyes and folded arms, could magically change things).

Unfortunately, when that didn't work for me, I paused....

jumped on google search....

and somewhat inadvertently discovered the "Get Organized Wizard".

(I wasn't literally searching for how to become a jeannie I promise)...

but I did find a willing participant to help me bring my office back to some sort of normalcy.

The Get Organized Wizard offers several courses on organizing everything from your life - time management & goal setting, to your home - closets, offices, etc. to life and business strategies.

 This course is an easy process to getting your home office organized in about 8 to 10 hours over the course of 7 days!

It takes you through a journey of Purging, Reallocating Space, Filing, Adopting Habits for a Clean Desk, and keeping your office space Tidy!

We are more than halfway through May and revealing our office makeovers!

Along with some serious reorganizing, I knew I wanted to make some aesthetic changes to my office space but have really been struggling with exactly what those changes were going to be!

Until now....

This room makes my decision crystal clear!

May Makeover Challenge

HOME OFFICE SPACE

As I mentioned last week, this month we will be reorganizing home office space.  This is such an important area of our home regardless of whether you have a designated room or little nook of space.  This is where things happen that keep the home running smoothly.  Bills get paid, schedules are made, and important papers get filed in this area.

Here are just a few things you might consider in case you are wondering why you might need to take on this challenge:

• Your office space has become a "catch all" for other household items that don't pertain to home office.

• You can't locate items that you need because of the chaos in the space.

• The filing system that you currently use is not working efficiently for you.

• The overall look of the space makes you wish for something different.

By the way, this is not an all inclusive list and you certainly don't need to have all four to qualify!!

Now that you've established that you are a good candidate for this challenge, let's discuss a process to implement so the end result is a home office space that you wonder how you ever lived without (or at least puts a smile on your face when you see it)!

The Process

First, don't over commit yourself.  Try to devote a certain amount of time each week to completing this challenge.  The last thing you want to do is overwhelm yourself.

Designate your Space

• This may mean that your office space will stay right where it is.  However, you may determine that there is a space somewhere else in your home that will work better.  Look to Pinterest and other websites for inspiration.

Declutter your Space

• Remove any items that don't pertain to the office.
• Get 3 large containers/boxes and label them as follows:  SHRED, FILE, TRASH
• Go through paperwork!  I know this is not a fun task, but one that is necessary.  Use the boxes to separate the papers.  You will go back to these boxes later.

Clean Your Space

• Now that you have removed all of the items from your workspace and placed into boxes, you will want to clean the space.  Move furniture if possible and sweep and/or vacuum the space.  
• Wipe down work surfaces; desk, shelves, etc.

Create Stations/Work Centers

Mail Station

• I shared in a previous post here how I made the file folders. I wanted something pretty on my credenza because these are files that I go to daily.  My file folders are labeled as:

Calvin

Kim

Incoming Mail

Outgoing Mail

Bills to Pay

Coupons

Reimbursements

Reconcile Receipts

If you have children at home, you may want to make a file for each of them for items that need to be signed and returned to school and/or any other pertinent information.  

Supply Station

• Decide on an area to keep all of your office supplies.  You may want to use items that you currently have around the house like decorative containers and baskets or consider The Dollar Store or Target for inexpensive solutions.

Filing Station

• It may be a file cabinet, box, credenza.  Whatever you decide, make sure its easily accessible.  Filing usually isn't high on the "fun" list, so don't make it more difficult to complete the task.  I previously posted here about Freedom Filer!  Have I mentioned how much I love this system?  Okay, I LOVE this system.

Add Personal Touches

• This is an area that you spend significant time in.  Make it personal by adding family photos, artwork that you have collected and/or from your children.  You may want to include some type of inspirational quote.  Hobby Lobby carries lots of different options for inspiraton.

Other Things to Consider

1. Conceal Cables & Wires - Command has a fairly inexpensive option here.  Additionally, you may want to identify what your cables are for by using a label system.
2. Invest in a shredder or rubber stamp to go back to that box that you have filled with papers in need of proper disposal.
3. Surge protect your computer.
4. Consider some type of magazine file system for those magazines that keep piling up but you aren't ready to recycle.
5. Develop a manuals binder(s) to centrally locate when needed.
